The Dress for Success boutique in the Holly Pointe Building has seen five or six women come through the shelves each week looking for clothes to wear for job interviews or to complement their current work wardrobe. This number was dwarfed by the 25 to 30 women who attended mobile and pop-up clothing distribution events organized by the organization.
Seeing that transportation and time were a hindrance for these women, Butler Dress for Success closed its office in July in favor of increasing the already much more popular pop-up events.
According to Liz Mims, director of customer services for Dress for Success Pittsburgh, a problem for many women job seekers is “how do you get clothes for a job when you don’t have a job yet. ?”
“We saw transportation as a barrier in Butler County,” she said. “So we decided that we were going to meet women where they were – literally.”
Dress for Success offers casual work clothes and shoes, as well as amenities such as lotion, shampoo, conditioner and other hygiene products, primarily for working women and women entering the workforce.
