The best Nike running shoes, such as the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%, may have dominated long-distance runs for the past few years, but those days are over. Like Adidas has proven at the Boston Marathon yesterday, other brands are just as capable of producing winning running shoes! Not to mention ASICS and their Metaspeed, the carbon-reinforced shoes that have won many races recently, and which I have worn so much that they have compromised the health of my legs.
Speaking of Metaspeed and ASICS: the brand has just announced the launch of the ASICS META: Time: Trials, which is said to be a “flagship event” that will combine ” new product and optimal racing conditions to allow athletes to beat their personal best (PB).” Yes, we will see the new Metaspeed+ this weekend!
As ASICS explains, on April 24 in the Spanish city of Málaga, ASICS elite athletes from around the world will come together to compete in a “series of high-octane races inspired by the Tour de France, as they push each other to achieve their own fastest times ever.”
Big names are attached to the event: triple Olympian Eilish McColgan, Yeshi Kalayu, Boniface Kibiwott, Koen NaertVicoty Chepngeno and Mohamed Katir will participate in World Athletics certified races of five kilometers, 10 kilometers or a half-marathon.
Needless to say, all elite athletes will be wearing the brand new Metaspeed+ shoes which will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the event. Building on the METASPEED series introduced in 2021, the ASICS Institute of Sports Science (ISS) used data “accumulated by elite athletes in competitions to refine product design and make runners even faster” .
The races will start at 6:45 a.m. BST and can be followed via the ASICS live stream on the ASICS hub and YouTube channel from 6:30 a.m. BST. Keep your eyes peeled, people!
